What’s something you’re changing about how you show up or how you serve?
I’ve spent some time reflecting on how I showed up from 2000 to 2024, and I’ve realized that some things need to change as I step into 2025 and beyond.
I’m naturally a giver, always eager to help others (psychologists might have fun unpacking that!). But one lesson I’m finally embracing is that not every need requires my response.
It’s been a journey, but I’m getting better at resisting the impulse to offer help just because I see a need. For example, when I see someone posting about wanting to learn something I’m skilled at, my first instinct is to jump in and help; often without even considering charging for my time.
Here’s the truth I’ve had to sit with: Every “Yes” that doesn’t align with my business and financial goals takes time away from the things that do.
I’ve started repeating a new mantra: “I’m not God, and I can’t help everyone.” It’s my reminder that saying “No” is not just okay. Saying “No” is necessary.
For 2025, I’m practicing:
- Saying “No” more often.
- Saying, “On further thought, I won’t be able to do that,” even if I initially said yes.
Every Yes will now pass through two filters:
- Does this move me closer to my personal and business goals?
- Does this align with my values, priorities, and roadmap?
I’d love to hear from you:
What are you changing to show up more fully for yourself and your business in the new year?
